Bayou Dachshund Club of New Orleans, Inc.
Rolled Out A Grand Celebration for the 10th Anniversary of their First Sanctioned Field Trial
Submitted by Sandi Myers, Trial Secretary

Bayou Dachshund Club of New Orleans, Inc. kicked off their 10th Anniversary Celebration of their first AKC Sanctioned Field Trial at the Dixie Springs Beagle Club in Prentiss, Mississippi on November 3, 2007. Leading the "Parade" were Trial Chairman, Randy David and Sandi Myers, Trial Secretary along with Bayou Committee Members, Victoria Burton, Bill Claycomb, Ken David & Will Guillot.

In the spotlight were the generous Sponsors of the event. All were displayed on a long board featuring a Mardi Gras style Dachshund Parade and in a Program Book featuring a list of contributors with their ads and memorials. The program also contained thank you notes, results, statistics, and stories of past trials over the last 10 years. The 10th Anniversary Parade campaign was such a success we are continuing this Sponsorship Program into January for the conclusion of our 10th Anniversary Celebration, commemorating our First Licensed Field Trial.

Be sure to come join the parade January 5th & 6th, 2008. Sponsors in attendance in November also enjoyed wearing their custom designed pin commemorating the Anniversary. The pin designed by Sandi Myers featured the 3 Mardi Gras dachshunds encircled by 10 running rabbits. Sponsors who were not in attendance in November will be receiving their pins and both the November and January programs after the January trials.

As with any parade, blue skies bring joy to the event. The weather was almost perfect, although for some, maybe a touch to the warm side. Dogs ran well and good sportsmanship abounded between exhibitors. The top dogs are listed in the Parade of Results.

FieldTrialParadeGroupPhoto.jpg (21011 bytes)At the conclusion of awards, a Second Line Parade complete with dachshund/bunny/Mardi Gras (Purple, Green & Gold) floats, masks & umbrellas appeared. Humans in masks and dachshunds in costumes paraded and danced to the tune of "Second Line – Pt. 1" by Stop, Inc. At the end we all gathered for a group photo. This has inspired a possible "float contest" for January's trial. Get your crates & dollys, wagons or other "float" materials out and bring it on down to Mississippi in January. Let the good times roll!

Victoria Burton, Raffle Queen led the participants in the exciting Raffle at the conclusion of the dinner on Saturday night. Fabulous food, what would a New Orleans style field trial be without great food, was prepared by our chefs Will Guillot, Randy David & Ken David. Randy and Will also decked out the clubhouse with classy, new Mardi Gras fabric tablecloths, Large White Rabbit Tureens wearing Purple, Green & Gold Mardi Gras beads and the beautiful table runner for the Secretary's table made the decorations complete. The club's Mardi Gras Dachshund Banner hung at the head of the clubhouse room. All of this added a grand touch of flair to our fantastic Saturday night Fried Turkey Dinner a grand affair again catered by Randy & Will.

We look forward to hosting the January trials and hope that you all will join us for more Fun, Fellowship, Food, Floats & Festivities!
