Flying Colors Farms and Qamari Afghan Hounds are linked and founded by Emmet and Julie Roche and are based on our love and devotion to two very special and magnificent breeds of animals, the Friesian Horse and the Afghan Hound.

QAMARI AFGHAN HOUNDS stemmed from a birthday gift of a very special hound, Ben Zari's Dusty Dawn UD LCM, from Emmet to Julie in 1978. Emmet had no idea at the time the monster he was creating. Over the last twenty years or so there have been over sixty Qamari bred Afghan Hound Champions and Afghans with Qamari breeding reside all over the planet from Japan to Australia, New Zealand to Sweden and Finland, Canada, France, Germany and even Russia.

We have been involved in all aspects of the dog game from showing and breeding our own dogs to judging numerous sweepstakes assignments both in the US and overseas. We are also involved with performance aspects with Sirsa attaining a Utility Dog Title in obedience, a rarity for the stubborn independent Afghan Hound, and in lure coursing with Emmet judging the sport for many years. Recently Julie has been involved with breeder and judges education giving demonstrations and talks at various functions.

FLYING COLORS FARM . When we moved to Kentucky the opportunity to once again own horses presented itself. We purchased two quiet Quarter Horses to have fun with. After meeting a Friesian owned by a friend at a dressage clinic both of us were smitten with this magnificent animal that reminded us so much of our Afghans. We shortly there after acquired our first Friesian as a weanling, Alta, who just recently became our first Star mare. Dressage is Julie's new passion and we hope to be able to breed and show Friesians that will be competitive dressage mounts while preserving the magical Friesian personality and intelligence. We think we have a good start on this goal with Remington who has just been named USA Equestrian, National Champion, Silver Stirrup Award Winner at Training Level Dressage for 2003. Our farm is named after one of our most precious and successful Afghans, Ch Qamari's Flying Colors. His spirit and legacy will be with us forever in all that we do.
